At a glance
The heart of the sultanate
The original account connects the palace’s founding in 1755–1756 with the division of the Mataram Sultanate after the Treaty of Giyanti. Its layout is described through Javanese ideas about harmony between people, nature and the divine, rather than simply as a collection of ornate buildings.
Understand the palace zones
The source follows the northern square, Pagelaran, Siti Hinggil, gateways and transitional courtyards towards the central palace, then the southern areas. Some spaces belong to private royal life or ceremonial use. Follow staff guidance and do not assume every building named in the guide is open to visitors.
Culture and visiting arrangements
Traditional dance, gamelan, wayang and heirloom displays are experiences mentioned in the source, but programmes and access depend on the day. The old listing gives 08:30–14:00 and IDR 25,000. Check the palace’s own visitor information for the current entrance, ticket, cultural programme and closure arrangements.
