Discover Museum Indonesia at TMII
Museum Indonesia offers an indoor introduction to the country’s cultural variety, inside the grounds of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. Its Balinese-style architecture, carved details and landscaped setting make the building itself worth a close look before exploring the displays.
History & identity
The museum was inaugurated in 1980, on TMII’s fifth anniversary. Its collection grew through contributions from across Indonesia, supporting the idea of a museum that tells the story of the nation through regional culture, objects and creative work.
Culture across the archipelago
The original guide describes the themes Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), people and their environment, and arts and crafts. Traditional clothing, masks, wayang, musical instruments, textiles and crafted objects help illustrate the relationships between identity, everyday life and artistic expression.
Architecture & photographs
Look for the building’s Balinese design and its entrance ornamentation, then move inside for the cultural displays. The source contains photographs from different periods, including material identified as being from before renovation. Gallery layouts and temporary exhibitions may differ from the archive photographs shown here.
Plan it with TMII
Museum Indonesia is inside TMII, so budget for park admission as well as any separate museum ticket. Check the official booking portal for the visitor category and package that applies to you. A museum visit works well alongside a small selection of regional pavilions rather than trying to cover every part of the park in one day.
